My name is Zach, I'm a freshman civil engineering student at Clarkson University, if you're like me and learn best in a small setting this school is for you, 90 percent of my classes have around 20 people in them which makes learning so much easier in comparison to large tier universities. Being that this school is so small you get to know a large percentage of students on campus pretty quick and it becomes almost like a family. One of my favorite parts of this school is its close proximity to the Adirondack park, we go almost every weekend whether it be hiking the high peaks and camping or skiing whiteface. I never thought id be so into the outdoors the way i am now but my fist time in the park changed my perspective when i was blown away by the shear size of everything and the pristine wilderness and its now one of my favorite parts of this school. I've got to say its simply breathtaking standing thousands of feet up on a mountain over the clouds for sunrise with no one else around but you and your friends.. and trust me it makes for a great stress reliever! One time after a test some friends and i hiked 3 hours up whiteface at 2 in the morning which was much needed after a rough test! Speaking of stress it will be a frequent thing you experience here because the courses are no joke! Even through it is tough compared to other schools alike you'll find out that its worth it when you hear employers ask where you go and when you tell them Clarkson they immediately offer you a job! If this school didn't have an amazing reputation for producing some of the best engineers i wouldn't know at least 10 friends who are working for GE/Boeing this summer making 30 an hour and have one friend who got hired at Nasa as a freshman. I also got offered a position as a field engineer that they strictly only give juniors and seniors but because of the Clarkson i was able to get the job, and this kind of thing happens more frequently than you think here. Another thing that makes this school nice is the fact that it only takes about 3 minutes to walk to the academic buildings from the dorms and once you are in the academic buildings there are a series of passageways that take you to any building you want without having to walk outside. In the winter you WILL cherish this! The campus as a whole is great and i love it, the architecture is nice, the labs are filled with nice equipment for the multitude of teams and clubs we have on campus (over 50 clubs and teams), the walks are short, the professors get to know students personally and we get to go hang out with them outside of class, the reputation is outstanding and most of all everyone becomes a family here no matter who you are. So if you're interested in coming here even the slightest bit I urge you to contact me and i'll gladly show you around every part of this campus and all of its perks so that maybe you can join the Clarkson family one day.
